Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community Because

People are Prepared to Make Their Opinions Heard

Once again the Community is being asked to show its solidarity in opposing a Development Application for a 198 residence Manufactured Home Estate to be built at 303 Blackhead Rd, Hallidays Point.

This DA is ostensibly the same development that was proposed in 2017 and that was subsequently rejected by the MidCoast Council on a series of grounds. The applicant exercised their right early in 2018 to take the case to the Land and Environment Court. The Community prepared to once again defend their contention that the development is "just not right" for the area. As it turned out, the applicant withdrew their appeal to the L&E Court, and it appeared that the matter had run its course.

Gateway Lifestyle, the original applicant, was purchased by another group known as Hometown Australia. It is this group that reworked and tweaked some minor aspects of the Development Application and re-submitted it to Council in 2018.

After the DA was refused for a second time in 2019, the owners / developer chose to go to the Land & Environment Court with an amended DA. The Court has accepted their right to lodge the amended set of documents, but there is not much difference to anything we have seen before.

There are 2 main reasons the Community should indicate their disapproval of this application:

1 - nothing has changed to make the proposal any different in concept to the 2017 or 2019 version - the proposed 198 manufactured homes are not appropriate to this specific location nor the Hallidays Point region

2 - if this development were to be approved, a significant precedent would be set that would permit other similar developments on land never intended for this kind of residential solution

There are many more nuances and reasons for objection, as you will find in other parts of this website, but these 2 remain at the core of this action. If we were to identify a 3rd and perhaps more simplistic reason for objecting, it is that the essential concept of this development has already been rejected by Council.
